I love a good tarter sauce and this dill tarter sauce recipe is delicious. This homemade dill tarter sauce recipe has consistency and a twang to it. There’s a really great texture to this tartar sauce with the chunks of diced onion and dill relish. The dill relish that’s in it adds extra flavor and crunch. It’s savory tartness is a great addition to any fish. Try using it with the pan-fried salmon recipe of mine, it would be a great addition. It can also be used on other dishes like chicken or fish sandwiches or even on burgers. One of my favorites is to use it as a dipping sauce.
It’s so easy to make and the best part is you know exactly what’s in it. No hidden ingredients. Dill tartar sauce doesn’t have any carbohydrates in it. Which makes it a good condiment to use for people who are having to what their carbohydrate intake. Most of the ingredients you will need are most likely already in your refrigerator. The first time I made this tartar sauce recipe was because I didn’t want to go to the store. So I rummaged through my refrigerator and came up with this dill recipe. I love homemade foods way better than store-bought. My family loved it so now I never buy tartar sauce at the store. They are spoiled with my homemade.
Ingredients needed:
- Mayo
- Onion
- Fresh dill or dried dill
- Garlic powder or fresh garlic
- Dill relish or dill pickles
- Lemon pepper or lemon juice
This is How to make Dill Tartar Sauce:
Ok get out a bowl and put the mayo in. Then add the minced onion, chopped dill, lemon pepper, garlic and the dill relish. Mix it all together real well. Cover the bowl with saran wrap or place in a sealed Tupperware container and put it in the refrigerator. Let is sit for at least and hour to mingle all the flavor together. The longer you let it sit the better the flavor will be. It is so simple to make.
Substitutes you can use:
- Using fresh dill is the best, but if you don’t have fresh dill you can use dried dill.
- Also if you don’t have dill relish you can use finely chopped dill pickles.
- You can also use garlic powder instead of fresh minced garlic
- Lastly, if you don’t have lemon pepper fresh lemon zest and pepper would also work.

- How long will tarter sauce last in the refrigerator? Dill Tarter Sauce will last in your refrigerator for a long time, 6 months is about as long as I will keep it, Just make sure you have it in a container that that is well sealed. In fact the longer it sits the better the flavor will get.
- What is tartar sauce? Tartar sauce is basically an aioli or mayonnaise sauce. Most tartar sauces are made with sweet pickle but I prefer a zesty dill.

Dill Tarter Sauce
Twangy dill tartar sauce
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayo
- 1 quarter cup minced onion
- 1 quarter cup dill relish or dill pickel minced
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
- ½ teaspoon minced garlic or garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon lemon pepper or lemon zest
Instructions
- Put the mayo in a bown
- Mince the onions and add that to the mayo
- Add Finely chop fresh dill
- Put the dill relish in with the other ingredients
- next add the garlic and lemon pepper
- Mix it all together and then refredgerate for a least an hour to get the full flavor of the of the dill.
